“Although these numbers don’t surprise me they do make me realize that I have certainly lost a lot of sleep throughout my more than 3 decades of living with T1D. A cure for me would be a combination of better technologies that remove the burden of micromanaging this chronic disease 24/7 – whether that would be through more advanced hybrid devices, or cell therapies. By having uninterrupted sleep I would have more energy to run after my toddler, I would not have to miss Ironman triathlon training sessions that take place first thing in the morning, and I would show up to early meetings with a clear mind. Lost and interrupted sleep can be a huge burden of living with T1D, and something that few are aware of. By continuing to work towards cures for T1D we can eventually regain our sleep and improve our quality of life. Two big wins in my book.”
