Summer Sunset Party

Hi, my name is Alex and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in 2021 at age 29. Although this diagnosis was a shock to my family and I, we have chosen to keep a positive attitude and spread awareness and education of the disease.

T1D is a disease that must be managed 24/7 with glucose monitoring through finger pricks or continuous glucose monitors, insulin through injections or pumps, carb counting and meal planning, just to name a few.

I took the initiative to create an Instagram account called @Type1Optimist in hopes of offering support and guidance to other T1D’s like myself, many of whom struggle on a daily basis. I believe that with the right amount of support, we can find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

Creating awareness and fundraising goes hand in hand with my mission to share a positive attitude and outlook while living with T1D. I am organizing a charity event in support of JDRF Canada on Wednesday, September 13th 2023, at Riverside in Montreal. The event will offer a fun summer night with drinks, food, a DJ and a raffle.
